We now have 4 day boats, 18 ft / 5.5 m. Three are Sailfish, two are kept on swing moorings off-shore at CTD at Los Narejos. One Sailfish is presently in storage. The fourth is a Spanish Arabel Arraezm 6.0mwhich is berther in the Marina at Islas Menores.
With the number of boats, members are never short of a sail. Significant others or one other nominated family member can sail free at any time and are welcomed at all our social events and meetings.
We try to arrange a friendly group sail every Thursday and Sunday morning, weather permitting, when members turn up and to enjoy a sail together. Quite often these group sales are followed by lunch. We also arrange to sail to a beach or marina, have lunch, the non sailing ''other Halfes`` meet us via dry land and then sail back, always very enjoyable.
If members want to sail on any of the other days and need a crew/skip then an e-mail to the Group members will usually result in someone being available to go out with you.
Sailing novices in our Group are helped and trained by our more experienced helmsmen. Our lead trainer Robert Hudson, makes learning to sail a most enjoyable experience. More experienced sailors are given familiarisation tuition.
You can join our Group with a view to becoming a skip or to continue as crew with opportunities to helm on social sails.
If you have friends or family that want to go out then we ask a nominal donation of 5 Euros per day (not per person). We want people to enjoy the boats as much as possible.
The Balaton Group are Members of SAMM, (Sailing Association Mar Menor) who administer club activities, hold monthly meetings to present sailing related talks and arrange Spring and Autumn race series.
All members that wish to, can take part in the SAMM regattas, which are held on Sundays in Spring and Autumn. Race days consist of a mixed fleet of boats, from dinghies to cruisers but the well administered handicap system always make the day interesting.
